A Perfect Day

I still remember the summer I spent waiting for my A-Level results… it was not a pleasant experience. With so much resting on the anticipated grades, an agonising uncertainty loomed over the holidays like a dark cloud. This year I discovered that waiting for my daughter’s A-Level results isn’t any easier.

Two days remained before the big reveal and the tension in our house had reached its peak. Restless nights, frayed tempers, unwarranted tears and childish tantrums were all too prevalent… and that was just me.

We were desperately in need of something to distract us from the worrying and waiting. Something to relax our minds and bodies and give our spirits a much needed boost. Fortunately I had planned a wonderful treat for the two of us and our Spa Day at the newly opened Aqua Sana at Woburn Forest couldn’t have come at a better time.

We resolved to leave our anxieties at home and drew up a list of banned topics for conversation or thought: exams, grades, universities and ‘what ifs’ were all included. We jumped in the car and reached our destination in a little over half an hour. On arrival we found the parking straightforward and the staff in reception both welcoming and efficient.

Very soon we were entering the capacious changing rooms with fluffy white towelling robes over our arms. We changed and moments later emerged through another door, arriving in what felt like a totally different world. Could this oasis of calm really be so close to home?

We began with a reflexology footbath and while our feet soaked in fragrant, warm water we felt our whole bodies relax. Determined to make the most of our day, we entered all six of Aqua Sana’s nature-inspired spas: Fire & Ice, Blossom, Herbal, Sensory, Mineral & Gemstone and Salt. With each experience our bodies and minds unwound a little more.

We loved the outdoor infinity pool with powerful water jets and views of the forest and we lounged in the sunshine on the outdoor terrace, making the most of the last rays of the summer.

Aqua Sana also boasts 22 beauty rooms offering treatments from renowned spa brands. My daughter opted for a Decléor Total Aromatherapy Escape, a treatment using warm aromatic balms. When she emerged from the treatment room she looked beautifully serene, every trace of tension erased from her recently troubled face.

I chose the Elemis Total Time Out, a head to toe treatment involving an anti-ageing facial followed by a deep tissue body massage. It was an incredible experience which left me feeling relaxed yet invigorated.

We were reluctant to leave and, delaying the inevitable return to reality, found ourselves in the Vitalé Café Bar sipping Champagne and sampling the irresistible cakes. Just one more indulgence to complete a perfect day.
